September 30

HOMEWORK: Please discuss your family's personal culture and beliefs at home. After a story and discussion about Orange Shirt Day, many students had trouble answering the questions: How would you feel if your culture and individual choices were taken away from you? Why does every child and their unique culture matter? In grade 3 culture was a significant area of study in our social studies curriculum and this concept should be a review. We will be writing about this topic tomorrow morning in the context of developing understanding and empathy for the experiences of students in residential schools. ** Some students also have finish up poems from literacy stations - due tomorrow Today we also: - took a pre-assessment for social studies - studied City of Ember - worked on geometric math art - reviewed the definitions of regions and landforms

September 26

Today - students spent time outside with their grade 2 buddies looking for patterns - took the geometry math quiz - co-created the rubric for our geometry art piece (Ask your student about this) Reminders: - We are collecting Toonies for Terry Fox - Muffin Breakfast Tomorrow - September Book Orders Due Tomorrow - Terry Fox Run tomorrow - please dress appropriately for running/ and cooler weather - French Days of the week quiz will be moved to next week - Some students have literacy station finish up homework (they need to complete this by tomorrow)

September 25

Today we - we learned the bodies of water in Alberta and labeled them on a map - we reviewed good topic sentences for our writing - wrote about fall outside and created a compelling topic sentence - we looked at a marble run and connected our science learning - we continued to work on our personal narratives and writing about Terry Fox REMINDER MATH QUIZ TOMORROW

September 24

September 23

Happy First Day of Fall! Today we joyfully decorated our classroom for the change of season. We also reviewed the definition of 3-D nets and built our own cubes, rectangular prisms, and triangular prisms out of paper. Students who were finished also got to make another shape of their choice. We made predictions using evidence from the text while reading "City of Ember." We made a geographic map labeling the landforms of Alberta - we will be learning about the different landforms in each region tomorrow. Upcoming: Geometry Quiz French Days of the Week Quiz (Friday)

September 19

Highlights:  - We learned about the nets of 3 -d shapes and completed some assessments to show what we know! - We worked to finish our personal narratives, used our rubrics to assess ourselves, and began conferencing with Mrs. Campbell for feedback and revision.  - We read more "City of Ember" and began to study the novels character's and setting.  - We worked with the word work choice board to study this weeks words. Tomorrow there is no school. Monday is picture day! Today muffin breakfast invites, book orders Due September 27, and Terry Fox fundraising forms went home. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND :) * Next week we will have a quiz on 3-d Shapes - students must know the proper spelling of each shape, be able to identify vertices, edges, and faces. Review Congruent and Similar Shapes & Lines of Symmetry :)

September 18

Yesterday we... - we read a story called "Owl Moon" and looked for the pieces of a personal narrative. Then we began to plan and write a personal narrative of our own - we learned how to sing the days of the week in French (ask me!) - we continued to review 3-d Shapes Today we... - built rectangular and triangular prisms from marshmallows and tooth picks - we did a science experiment with a textbook (we had to roll a textbook across the room with classroom supplies) - we then learned about the wheel and axel and its advantages over rollers Please review 3-d shapes at home!
September 16, 2019 Today we learned... - the definitions for force, work, and load in science. We will continue these notes tomorrow. - we had our first fire drill -studied word word patterns short u , ue, & ew (rescue, flew, plump etc) Please see demographic form in your student's backpack and return to school when the information is verified as correct.
